Do you think home inspectors should be licensed?
If you did not know, the Bill HB433 is for the licensing of home inspectors in the state of New Mexico. Right now more than 60%-70% of home inspection companies do not have any certifications and do not follow any nationally recognized standard of practice. They are not required to be insured or continue to educate themselves. This means anyone with a ladder and a screwdriver can call themselves a home inspector!
his bill will also help protect the consumer by holding the home inspection companies accountable and establish a minimum standard of what a home inspection is
This bill would establish the minimum amount of training required for new home inspectors. Ongoing CE training and E&O insurance for licensed home inspectors.
The home buyers are putting their trust in the home inspection companies to provide them with information they need to assist in making one of the largest purchase most people will ever make.
The bill is scheduled to be reviewed by the House of Commerce and Economic Development Committee on Friday afternoon, Feb 8. You can click the link below to see the latest development of the bill.
